Two-Year Lease Extension Will Keep Santa Cruz Warriors at Kaiser Permanente Arena through 2021
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The Santa Cruz City Council voted unanimously (7-0) to extend the Santa Cruz Warriors’ current lease at Kaiser Permanente Arena for at least two additional seasons, the team announced today. The team’s original lease, signed in 2012 with the Seaside Company and the City of Santa Cruz, was set to end following the 2018-19 season. The team’s lease will now be extended to at least the end of the 2020-21 NBA G League season.
“Today’s unanimous vote reflects our team’s valued presence as neighbors and ambassadors of the Santa Cruz community, and I’m thankful to the members of our City Council and our amazing Warriors fans in attendance for their efforts to keep our team at Kaiser Permanente Arena through at least the 2020-21 season,” said Warriors President Chris Murphy. “Today’s vote re-established our team’s commitment to this community and is a tremendous tip-off to our ongoing discussions to find a long-term home in Santa Cruz.”
Since relocating from Bismarck, North Dakota to Santa Cruz following the 2011-12 season, the Warriors have made the NBA G League Playoffs in four of the team’s five seasons, reaching three consecutive G League Finals (2013-15) and winning the 2015 NBA G League Championship. The team has sold out 37 consecutive games at Kaiser Permanente Arena dating back to March 12, 2016.
