Warriors Acquire Returning Rights to Guards Lamar Patterson and Thomas Walkup, 2018 First-Round Pick

Team Sends Guard Alex Hamilton, 2018 Third-Round Pick to the Windy City Bulls

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The Santa Cruz Warriors announced today the completion of a three-team trade with the Windy City Bulls and Reno Bighorns to acquire the returning rights to guard Thomas Walkup, the returning rights to guard/forward Lamar Patterson and the Erie Bayhawks 2018 first-round selection. As part of the deal, the Warriors will send second-year guard Alex Hamilton and the team’s 2018 third round selection to Windy City.

As part of the trade, the Bulls also received forward Will Davis from the Bighorns, while Reno receives center Daniel Ochefu, the returning rights to center Spencer Dinwiddle and a Salt Lake City Stars 2018 third round pick from Windy City. Today’s trade is conditional upon Hamilton, Davis and Ochefu completing physicals.

In 73 games (26 starts) with the Santa Cruz Warriors, Hamilton averaged 11.3 points, 4.9 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 26.8 minutes. The 24-year-old Chipley, Florida native ranks fifth all-time on Santa Cruz’s career assists list with 356 and the all-time career steals lists with 112 thefts.

Patterson (6’5, 225) currently plays for Fiat Torino in the Italy’s Lega A, earning league MVP with averages of 15.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 33 games (28 starts). A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Patterson spent the 2016-17 NBA season between the Atlanta Hawks and Reno Bighorns, securing G League averages of 24.0 points with 6.9 rebounds and 4.5 assists.

Walkup (6’2, 195) is now with the German Basketball Bundesliga for MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, currently averaging 11.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.73 steals in 26.6 minutes across 40 games. A two-time Southland Conference Player of the Year at Stephen F. Austin University, Walkup appeared in six games (4 starts) with the Golden State Warriors 2016 Las Vegas Summer League team. Walkup spent the 2016-17 NBA G League season with Windy City, securing 7.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 40 games (23 starts).
