SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The Santa Cruz Warriors (4-2) outlasted the Salt Lake City Stars (0-5) tonight, 122-111, for the team’s third straight home win in front of a sold-out crowd, the team announced today.

Warriors guard Quinn Cook scored 30 points and dished 13 assists, including a handful of alley-oops to center Damian Jones. The Warriors big man, currently on assignment from the Golden State Warriors, finished with 18 points (8-9 shooting), seven rebounds and five assists. Stars center Eric Griffin finished with 23 points (4-6 3FG) and five rebounds in 36 minutes, and forward Jermaine Taylor finished with 18 points on 4-7 from three.

The Stars took an early six-point lead in the first quarter behind Jermaine Taylor’s eight points (3-5 FG, 2-3 3FG). The Warriors well-balanced attack responded with a 26-4 run to eventually take a 35-24 lead in the first period. The first frame also featured deft outside shooting from Jones, with a 15-footer as well as his first career three-pointer at 8:09 in the first. The Warriors extended their double-digit lead in the second quarter thanks to 14-0 run during a four-minute stretch, with Cook and forward Georges Niang scoring nine points each to take a 67-47 halftime lead.

After Salt Lake City fell behind by as many as 27 points in the third frame, the Stars went on a 16-5 run to end the third quarter 95-79. The Stars’ front court trio of Griffin, Taylor and forward Kendall Pollard scored 20 of the team’s 32 fourth-quarter points to bring the Sea Dubs lead to within 10, but late buckets by forward Georges Niang (24 points, eight rebounds, six assists) and Cook ended any hope of a Salt Lake City comeback. Santa Cruz finished the game shooting 61.1% from the field, establishing a G League season high.

The Santa Cruz Warriors extended the team’s home sellout streak to 35 consecutive games and gained its 150th franchise win in the process. The Warriors will conclude the team’s four-game homestand this Friday, November 17 against the Long Island Nets. Friday’s game will be the team’s first Community Jersey Night, hosted by Plantronics, with funds raised to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank.
