Second Harvest Food Bank to Receive 10 Meals for Each Point the Warriors Score This Season

SANTA CRUZ, CA – The Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State Warriors, Warriors Gaming Squad (NBA 2K League), Kaiser Permanente and The Athletes’ Corner are teaming up to bring the Swishes for Dishes initiative back to Santa Cruz for the 2021-22 season. Designed to address food insecurity issues throughout the Bay Area, the Swishes for Dishes program launched in late 2020 with the Golden State Warriors, Santa Cruz Warriors, Kaiser Permanente and The Athletes’ Corner. To further combat food insecurity and support our local communities, this year’s program is expanding to include the Warriors Gaming Squad. Through this program, 100 meals will be donated to Bay Area food banks for each point the Golden State Warriors score throughout the regular season, while each point the Santa Cruz Warriors and Warriors Gaming Squad equates to 10 meals donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County and Second Harvest Food Bank of Contra Costa County, respectively.

“Continuing the Swishes for Dishes initiative in Santa Cruz this season is so important in fighting food insecurity in our local community,” said Santa Cruz Warriors President Chris Murphy. “We’re looking forward to expanding the program to include Warriors Gaming Squad, which will increase our overall reach in helping those in need.”

During the 2020-21 season, the Golden State Warriors, Kaiser Permanente and The Athletes’ Corner donated 1,020,000 meals to Bay Area food banks through the Swishes for Dishes campaign and teamed up with the Alameda County Community Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley and San Francisco-Marin Food Bank to host five meal distribution events throughout the Bay Area.

During the Santa Cruz Warriors 2020-21 single site season in Orlando, the Santa Cruz Warriors, Kaiser Permanente and The Athlete’s Corner teamed up to donate 50,280 meals to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County.

“We are so excited to partner on the Swishes for Dishes program for the second year”, said Irene Chavez, Senior Vice President and Area Manager of Kaiser Permanente San Jose and Santa Cruz County Area. “The impacts of COVID-19 are continuing to play a role in food insecurity in our community, and this program allows us to do our part in combating hunger in Santa Cruz County.”

Through the Swishes for Dishes initiative this season, the Golden State Warriors have already donated 46,100 meals to food banks throughout the Bay Area. The Santa Cruz Warriors hope to further drive awareness to this program while supporting Santa Cruz County families in need.
