Santa Cruz Warriors Sweep G League Ignite, 125-101

SANTA CRUZ, CA – The Santa Cruz Warriors (4-0) defeated the NBA G League Ignite (0-5), 125-101, on Sunday afternoon at The Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, NV. 

Guard Kendric Davis led the Warriors with 23 points and added six rebounds and six assists. Two-way guard Jerome Robinson added an additional 23 points and five rebounds to the win. Forward Javan Johnson came off the bench to score 20 points and five rebounds. Two-way center Usman Garuba secured a double-double, notching 12 points and 16 rebounds. Six Warriors players scored in double-digits in the win.

The NBA G League Ignite were led by forward Tyler Smith with 21 points and eight rebounds. Guard Thierry Darlan posted 17 points and six rebounds and guard John Jenkins added 15 points and six assists.

The Warriors dominated early in the contest, limiting Ignite to 36 percent shooting in the first quarter. Santa Cruz won the quarter, 36-23, with help from 10 first-quarter points from Davis. The Sea Dubs maintained the lead throughout the second quarter, eventually building to a 29-point advantage over Ignite. Johnson led the team in scoring in the first half with 17 points, including five three-point field goals. The Warriors outscored Ignite, 76-49, in the first half and had 28 points in the paint. 

The Sea Dubs led by 37-points in the third quarter, a season high for the team. With 2:51 left in the third, Garuba dunked to secure his first double-double of the season. All five Santa Cruz Warriors starters closed out the third quarter in double-digits. The Sea Dubs continued to dominate Ignite, heading into the final frame with a 29-point advantage, 103-74. The Warriors closed out the fourth quarter shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 42.5 percent from behind the arc, and limited Ignite to 23.5 percent shooting from behind the arc. Ignite fought back to win the fourth quarter, 27-22, but could not close the gap, ultimately falling to the Warriors, 125-101. 

The Santa Cruz Warriors will now travel to Salt Lake City to face the Stars on Tuesday, November 21 at 6 p.m. PT. The Warriors return home to face the Rip City Remix on Friday, December 1 at 7 p.m. PT at Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz, CA.
