Boys & Girls Club of Santa Cruz County Director Bryon Windsor has been selected as a finalist for the Jr. NBA’s 2022-23 Community Coach of the Year Award, it was announced by the NBA today. The award honors local coaches who have made a lasting impact on their community and focus on teaching life lessons to develop young individuals into healthy, well-rounded and confident adults. Windsor is the only finalist selected from a G League team, up against finalists from the Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors.

Windsor serves as both the Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Cruz County’s recreation basketball league and the full-time Clubhouse Director of the Joe & Linda Aliberti Clubhouse in Scotts Valley. In addition to coordinating and running the local basketball program, Windsor serves as a mentor for coaches, officiates games in the league and develops new programs that support the growth of the youth and staff at all Boys & Girls Club clubhouses across Santa Cruz County. Windsor is committed to teaching youth about health and physical fitness, building confidence and self-worth, and supporting their academic success and growth.

“Bryon has made a lasting impact on youth both on and off the court in the Santa Cruz community,” said Santa Cruz Warriors President Chris Murphy. “His contributions to the local youth basketball scene throughout our county play a major role in developing a love for the game across kids of all ages in Santa Cruz. From coaching, to mentoring, to officiating, to engaging with the kids, his energy and passion for youth basketball development is unlike anything I have ever seen. The Warriors, the NBA, and the NBA G League are proud to recognize Bryon as a finalist for this honorary award.”

An executive panel of judges from the Jr. NBA Leadership Council, NBA league office, and Positive Coaching Alliance, alongside an interview and public fan vote via social media, will determine the winner of the Jr. NBA Coach of the Year award. The voting period will run from Monday, June 12 to Sunday, June 18. To vote, please click HERE.

The Jr. NBA has partnered with the Positive Coaching Alliance to honor influential youth basketball coaches and their impact beyond the court. This initiative recognizes both a Jr. NBA Community Coach of the Year and a Jr. NBA Scholastic Coach of the Year. Each participating NBA, WNBA, and G League team can nominate a local coach to be selected as the national Coach of the Year.
