Santa Cruz Warriors Beat Austin Spurs, 116-112

SANTA CRUZ, CA – The Santa Cruz Warriors (13-17) beat the Austin Spurs (13-17), 116-112, in their final home game of the 2021-22 NBA G League Regular Season at Kaiser Permanente Arena Saturday night.

Guard Kendall Smith finished with a triple-double for the Sea Dubs notching 17 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists. Center Selom Mawugbe added a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds and forward Jerome Robinson closed out the night with 32 points and five rebounds.

Forward Devontae Cacok finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Spurs and forward DJ Stewart added 17 points and five assists. Guard Jaylen Morris added 17 points off the bench for Austin.

The game was competitive throughout the first quarter, with 10 points from Robinson giving the Warriors a 35-31 lead heading into the second quarter. The Sea Dubs momentum carried into the second quarter to extend the lead by as many as 10 points, however the Spurs offense sparked back to take a 61-60 lead over the Warriors heading into halftime.

Santa Cruz went on a 10-0 run to force an Austin Spurs timeout coming out of halftime. The Warriors maintained the lead and closed out the third quarter with a 90-84 lead over Austin. The Spurs fought back to take the lead mid-way through the fourth quarter, but the Warriors were able to hang on to secure the win, 116-112.
