Santa Cruz Warriors Fall To Mexico City Capitanes, 107-96, In First Preseason Game

SANTA CRUZ, CA – The Santa Cruz Warriors fell to the Mexico City Capitanes, 107-96, Friday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena in its first preseason game of the 2021-22 NBA G League season.
The Warriors took the early advantage and led 26-21 at the end of the first quarter, but the Capitanes pulled ahead to go into the second half with a 54-53 lead, with Alfonzo McKinnie adding 16 first-half points. Warriors two-way guard Jeff Dowtin Jr led the Warriors with 12 points in the first half. Capitanes extended the lead to 79-74 entering the fourth quarter, further pushing out the lead to 19 points mid-way through the fourth. Santa Cruz went on a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to nine but did not get closer the rest of regulation.
Santa Cruz had all five starters score in double figures, led by L.J. Figueroa with 24 points, who also added seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Dowtin Jr. Contributed 20 points and five assists on 8-of-19 shooting, while Golden State assignee Moses Moody had 17 points, four assists and three steals, connecting on three of seven 3-point attempts.
The former Golden State Warrior McKinnie led the Capitanes with 31 points (14-25 FG) and added 10 rebounds. Center Tyler Davis tallied 16 rebounds (10 offensive) and finished with 14 points for Mexico City, while guard Fabian Jaimes ended the night with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
