Santa Cruz Warriors Fall To Texas Legends, 136-132

FRISCO, TX – The Santa Cruz Warriors (3-2) fell to the Texas Legends (2-1), 136-132, in overtime Saturday night at the Comerica Center.

Golden State Warriors two-way guard Quinndary Weatherspoon led the Warriors with 34 points and 11 rebounds. LJ Figueroa followed closely with 30 points and eight rebounds and guard Frankie Ferrari added 20 points, 17 assists and five rebounds.

Texas was led by guard Carlik Jones with 42 points, 10 assists and five rebounds and forward Justin Jackson added 30 points and nine rebounds. Forward Feron Hunt finished the night with 17 points and four assists in the win.

The Legends took a six-point lead early in the first quarter, however eight first quarter points from Santa Cruz guard Kalob Ledoux helped the Warriors come back to take a 26-25 lead heading into the second quarter. The Santa Cruz offense came alive in the second quarter thanks to big buckets from forward Lamont West and Weatherspoon to take a 12-point lead mid-way through the quarter. Texas’ Hunt and Jones combined for 29 first half points to keep the Legends in the game, but Ferrari’s 11 points, 11 assists and five rebounds in the first half helped the Sea Dubs to a 68-61 lead heading into halftime.

Texas went on an 8-0 run mid-way through the third quarter to help close the lead, but Santa Cruz was able to keep a 99-93 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Legends came back to tie the game mid-way through the fourth quarter and were able to take a three-point lead with less than two minutes remaining. The game was tied at 120 with just a minute remaining, but a foul on Jones with 25 seconds left in the game gave the Legends a two-point lead. A late three from Ferrari returned the lead to the Sea Dubs, but Texas’ Jackson tied the game at 125 with a three pointer with 1.8 seconds remaining to send the contest into overtime. Jones scored all 11 points for the Legends in overtime to help Texas secure the win over Santa Cruz, 136-132.
