Santa Cruz Warriors Secure Fourth Straight Win, Beat Salt Lake City Stars, 126-114

WEST VALLEY CITY, UT – The Santa Cruz Warriors (5-5) overcame the Salt Lake City Stars (3-8), 126-114, on Tuesday evening at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah, notching the team’s fourth straight win. 

Guard Kendric Davis led both teams with 26 points and 16 assists. Two-way center Usman Garuba followed closely with 24 points and 14 rebounds, and forward Donovan Williams closed out the night with 22 points and eight rebounds. Guard Pat Spencer had 13 points and seven assists off the bench in the Sea Dubs road win. 

Guard Michael Devoe led the Stars with 19 points off the bench, and two-way guard Jason Preston added 15 points and 12 assists. Forward Taylor Hendricks, on assignment from the Utah Jazz, finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, and two-way forward Johnny Juzang added 13 points. 

The first quarter saw five lead changes as both teams battled to pull ahead, but a buzzer-beating floater from Warriors forward Javan Johnson gave Santa Cruz a 32-29 advantage to end the period. A first half double-double from Davis allowed the Warriors to enter the break with a 68-60 lead, closing out the frame with five players scoring in double figures and 18 assists as a team. 

Santa Cruz pushed their advantage to lead by as many as 18 points in the third quarter and held a 97-81 lead to close out the frame. Salt Lake City cut Santa Cruz’s lead down to just 10 points, 118-108, with less than three minutes remaining in the contest. Back-to-back three-point shots from Spencer and Davis helped the Warriors hold on to secure their fourth straight win, 126-114.   

The Warriors will now travel to Austin to face the Spurs on Thursday, January 25 at 5:00 p.m. (PT) in the second contest of a four-game road trip.
